Downtown Lawrence Restorative Justice Discussions: Organize on MLK Day 2019!

In the area of civil rights, we have made much progress, AND we have much work still to do. Consider these two key issues that disproportionately affect people of color in our community:
  • Proposed Jail Expansion: Douglas County Commissioners are poised to use tax dollars to fund a massive jail expansion without understanding why our jail population has exploded.
  • Counter-Productive Disciplinary Practices in Schools: Out-of-school suspensions lead to a higher risk of dropping out, which leads to higher chances of incarceration.
Justice Matters is hosting a series of discussions about restorative justice to commemorate the Martin Luther King holiday. We invite anyone with a passion for justice to join us in making Lawrence, KS a restorative community. We hope to see you there!
