Jail Alternatives & Restorative Justice in Schools Research Meeting: Sheriff Joe Pelle

Sheriff Joe Pelle from Boulder County, CO will be joining us virtually on a conference call.

He runs a restorative justice program (founded in 2000), and is an advocate of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) program, which uses restorative justice rather than traditional punishment for students. The SRO program is about building relationships and trust with students and families, and taking an intervention and restorative justice approach to conflicts. SROs address real-world issues that impact students, and often become mentors for those students who don’t have trusted adults in their lives. School arrests are now rare occurrences.

Logistical information for the conference call will be sent out via email in advance of the call.
